Alaska Spring

A couple shots of Pioneer Peak...Spring in southcentral Alaska! The migratory birds have not yet arrived, but soon the sights and sounds of Canada Geese, Sandhill Cranes, and Swans will signal the arrival of warmer weather. It was +45 degrees here today. The roads are clear, and relatively dry. Those tourists able to afford the cost of travel up the Alaska Highway will soon be loading up and heading north to get in on the first salmon runs of the year beginning in late May. It looks like Barrow and other points on the North Slope are still pretty cool...below zero temps. Those folks won't see +45 degrees until mid-summer.
