Fall to Spring Photos

Just a few photos from last fall, winter, and now.....Joe crossing a stream, our pet squirrel, Denali hwy country landscapes, the Barrow sunrise, and some spring flowers.....

Dry weather

Good morning! It's been a dry spring in our region of Alaska. There are multiple wildfires in the area, as well as further into the interior of the state. Last evening, Angel and I went for a walk and I snapped a photo of the smoke and haze surrounding Pioneer Peak. I've included a clear (before) shot from a few days ago, so the difference in conditions should be apparent. Also, a few photos of the Renfro's Alaskan Adventure planes for your enjoyment. Renfro's is located in Bethel, Alaska and offers charter flight services, hunting and fishing drop-offs, as well as a variety of guided hunting and fishing packages. They are a good outfit to go with if you are flying out in that area. Competitive prices for hunting and fishing, but none of that is "cheap" in Alaska. There is a Renfro's website at Renfrosalaskanadventures.com. Our nephew, Colby is arriving this Thursday to begin his first Alaska adventure. He'll be heading down to Cooper Landing to learn a bit about what fishing and summer is like in that area. Colby has a job with one of the local fishing outfitters that should prove to be fun for him. Angel and I are going to Denali Park for three days in early June. Hopefully, we'll have some nice wildlife photos to share after that trip.

Memorial Weekend

I've encountered some problems lately posting for any of you who may have been attempting to follow. Angel and I are doing well and spring has turned to summer in Alaska. I will attempt to post a few additional photos this weekend.

Matt is Back

I've been neglecting the blog lately, due to work, catching up on chores, and a bit of laziness. I am now home and getting into the routine of not "working". This often includes messing around with photography as I get the time. I'm heading out this afternoon for a few hours in search of migratory birds. It's still winter in our neck of the woods, but spring is slowly creeping up on us. I'll post photos of the birds as I get them. Until then, here are a few modified photos from my archives. As always, feel free to view and comment on the photos.

The Trappers

My buddy Jim and his youthful looking trapping companions harvested a huge 37 pound male wolverine from the stinky moose head we set right before Thanksgiving. The kids look like they enjoyed the trip! Wolverines are reclusive, and quite difficult to trap, so this is pretty special. The fur will make a nice ruff on someones parka! Hey Jim, how much you want for it? :-) It's warming up here in Barrow. Still -15 or so, but better than -40. The sun is scheduled to peek above the horizon on Saturday. Hope it's clear, so we can get a few photos for you. Stay warm and safe.
